Late to the charts, but worth the wait May 5, 2010 Ryan Turowski (Manchester, NH, USA) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I tend to not write song reviews, but I feel the need to balance out the other review. Bulletproof is one of the best radio songs in a while. To compare Elly Jackson to Justin Bieber is one of the nuttier things I've seen in a review, and I encourage anyone out there to give the sample a listen. They simply have very few similarities.
Anyway, Bulletproof is one of the catchiest songs to hit radio in the past half-year or so, and I think it can be appreciated in that the material and the sound is very different than your typical pop hits: strength-filled lyrics with an electropop back beat. It's biting, solid, and a great dance song. La Roux took Europe by storm in 2009, and its hard to tell if they will do the same in the U.S., but Bulletproof is a great start. Certainly, the quality outstrips most pop music on the radio today and the critical reaction to the song helps on that side. I'd say it's worth the buck to add to your collection.
Bulletproof Ballad August 22, 2010 Amaranth (Northern California) "Bulletproof" is an electrifying ballad by the electrifying UK duo La Roux. It's a no holds barred, kicky anthem. You want to sing along with it. It's about leaving an abusive relationship, and no longer taking any garbage. It's a riot grrrl song. "Bulletproof" is a confidence-boosting song!
A surprise August 24, 2010 Starbuck I did not like the title of the song, but after listening to it, I was surprised. This is a very good tune!
Fantastic Album August 30, 2010 Lily This Album can get you in the mood for Anything, from working out, going out, cleaning, working, whatever task lies ahead be sure to play some La Roux and make it more enjoyable.
Uses inferior-quality CBR encoding July 26, 2010 JP 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My rating isn't about the song itself, because I assume you know whether you like the song before you make your purchase. My rating is based on the MP3 file you actually get from Amazon.com.
Most Amazon.com MP3s are encoded using the superior-quality variable bitrate (VBR) encoding, targeted at an average of 256 kbps. Unfortunately, this song is encoded with the inferior-quality constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. It is very disappointing to see that Amazon.com is still occasionally using constant bitrate encoding.
Also, as another reviewer pointed out, the MP3 file is LOUD, with lots of clipping (bad!). According to MP3Gain, the volume level is 100.3 dB. This means that the AVERAGE volume of the song is 100.3% of what the theoretical MAXIMUM is supposed to be. Most modern pop songs have an average volume level in the high 90s, while older songs are often in the lower 90s. If you download MP3Gain from SourceForge, you can adjust the volume level and fix the clipping.
